Akuarium from the Boat
Akuarium Beach is the most photographed small cove on the northern Himara coastline — famous for water clarity that resembles looking into an aquarium. About 6 km north of Himara by sea, between Livadhi and Jale, Akuarium is a standard 20–30 minute snorkel stop on most Himara tours.
The boat angle is consistently underrated. Most Akuarium photography is shot from the cove itself or from above (drone), but arriving by boat shows the full cove geometry against the cliff backdrop — a different and equally photogenic frame.
Why It's a Standout Stop
| Quality | Akuarium |
|---|---|
| Water clarity | Among the best on the Riviera — 15+ m visibility on calm days |
| Snorkel value | High — fish populations and rocky formations close to shore |
| Crowd factor | Heavy on midday; quieter via boat-tour arrival |
| Cove size | Tiny — group fills the cove fast |
For travellers booking a short coastline tour, Akuarium is the snorkel stop. Bring a mask.
Boat vs. Hike (vs. 4x4)
| Method | Time | Crowd timing | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boat from Himara | 15 min by sea + 20–30 min stop | Early morning quiet | Quick visit + photo |
| Hike from Livadhi | 1.5 km / 30–45 min | Midday rush | Full day on shore |
| 4x4 from Jale | Short rough drive | Variable | Vehicle-based access |
If your priority is the snorkel stop without crowds, the boat is the cleanest way. If your priority is a half-day at Akuarium, hike from Livadhi.
