Privacy Policy
How the himara.net website and the Himara Travel Guide app for iPhone handle your data.
Last updated: 14 September 2026
Who we are
himara.net runs the himara.net travel guide and the Himara Travel Guide app for iPhone. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean himara.net. For any question about privacy or your data, email info@himara.net.
In short
- The app has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. Your saved places, trip dates, interests and appearance setting stay on your iPhone.
- The website counts visits and clicks with OpenPanel, an analytics tool that does not use cookies.
- Neither the website nor the app asks for your name, email address or payment details.
- Hotel and tour bookings happen on partner sites such as Stay22, Booking.com and GetYourGuide, under their own privacy policies.
The Himara Travel Guide app
The app has no sign-in, and it contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting tools.
Stored only on your iPhone
- The places you save
- Your check-in date, number of nights and number of guests
- The interests you choose during setup, and whether you have finished setup
- Your appearance setting (light or dark)
This information is kept in the app's own storage on your device. It is not sent to us, and deleting the app removes it.
What the app loads from the internet
- Weather and events. The app fetches the forecast and the events calendar from himara.net. The forecast comes from MET Norway (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute). Our server makes that request, so MET Norway receives nothing from your phone.
- Photos. Place photos load from cdn.himara.net and are cached on your device.
- Hotel map. The Stays tab shows a hotel map from Stay22 inside the app. It loads from Stay22's servers, which receive your IP address, device details, and the dates and number of guests you set, so the map can show prices.
- Links. Booking, tour, venue website and Instagram links open in an in-app Safari browser. Hotel booking links pass through Stay22 with your dates and number of guests on the way to Booking.com, and tour links pass through Stay22 on the way to GetYourGuide. The sites you open have their own privacy policies.
- Maps. Maps in the app are drawn by Apple Maps, which loads map data from Apple. Directions open in Apple Maps or Google Maps, whichever you pick.
- Location. The app's own code never asks for or reads your location. The location permission text it carries is there because Apple Maps requires it.
The himara.net website
Analytics
We use OpenPanel, an open-source analytics tool, to see which pages people read and which links they use. It records the pages you view, the page you arrived from, clicks on links to other sites, and clicks on hotel and tour booking buttons, including the dates and number of guests entered in a booking form. Your IP address and browser user agent are passed to the analytics server with these events. OpenPanel does not set cookies or store an identifier in your browser.
Hosting and logs
The website runs on Cloudflare, and the files the app loads from himara.net and cdn.himara.net are served by Cloudflare too. To deliver them, Cloudflare processes your IP address and the details of each request, and request logging is turned on for the site. Logs are kept for the period Cloudflare sets.
Content from other services
- Stay22. A Stay22 script runs on every page and turns hotel and tour links into affiliate links, and some pages embed a Stay22 hotel map. Stay22 receives your IP address and browser details when these load, and its privacy policy covers what it does with them, including any cookies.
- Maps. The interactive map loads map images from OpenStreetMap, and the small maps on place pages load satellite images from Esri. Both receive your IP address when the images load.
- Links to other sites. Google Maps, booking and tour links take you to Google, Booking.com, GetYourGuide and other sites. Their privacy policies apply once you are there.
- Fonts. Fonts are served from himara.net itself, not from Google Fonts.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you send, and use it to reply.
Cookies
himara.net sets one cookie of its own, NEXT_LOCALE, which remembers the language version of the site you last opened. It holds only a language code and is deleted when you close your browser. Stay22's script and map, and the partner sites you open from our links, can set their own cookies.
Affiliate links
Some links on the website and in the app earn us a commission if you book. They carry our Stay22 partner ID so the booking can be credited to himara.net. You pay the same price.
Children
The website and the app are a general travel guide and are not directed at children. Neither asks for personal details.
How long data is kept
Data stored by the app stays on your iPhone until you change it or delete the app. Analytics data and Cloudflare logs are kept for the period set by each provider. Emails stay in our inbox until we delete them; ask us and we will delete yours.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including in the EU and the UK under the GDPR, you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email info@himara.net. Data kept by the app is only on your device, so you can remove it yourself by clearing your saved places or deleting the app. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
