Boat-only — a narrow rock inlet entered from the sea

A hidden sea cave on the cliffs near Gjipe, reached only by boat — a narrow inlet of clear turquoise water tucked beneath dramatic karst rock. A quiet photo-and-swim stop away from the busier caves on the Himara boat-tour route.

The Secret Cave is one of the quieter stops a boat tour can work into the run along the cliffs near Gjipe — a narrow inlet where the sea cuts back under steep karst rock into a sheltered pool of clear turquoise water. There's no beach and no facilities; the appeal is purely the setting: dramatic layered cliffs on either side, calm water, and far fewer boats than the headline caves.

Because it's tucked into the rock and easy to pass, it tends to be included by skippers who know the coast well rather than on every standard itinerary — worth asking your operator about when you book.

How to visit

It's a boat-only stop. Most Himara boat tours and private charters running the Gjipe stretch can nose in for a few minutes for photos and a swim if conditions are calm. There's nothing to land on, so it's a short pause rather than a destination in itself.

Good to know

  • Bring water shoes if you plan to swim — the entry is over rock, not sand.
  • Calm seas only — the inlet is exposed, so a skipper will skip it if there's swell.
  • Pairs naturally with nearby Pirate's Cave and Gjipe on a coastline tour.
