Ksamil Holidays: Package or DIY, What It Costs, Where to Stay

A Ksamil holiday looks simple in the brochure: white sand, four small islands a swim away, a week of sun. The part the brochure skips is the last stretch. Ksamil has no airport, it sits at the far southern tip of Albania, and the way you cover the last stretch of nearly 300 km from Tirana decides whether day one is a beach day or a coach day.

So before comparing hotels, decide how you are getting there. That one choice changes the price, the transfer time and even which town you should sleep in.

Three ways to get a Ksamil holiday together

We checked the package sellers' own pages and the bus and ferry routes in October 2026. Prices move weekly; the shape of each option does not.

Route Door to Ksamil after landing What you book Best for
Package via Tirana About 4 h by coach or private transfer Flight + hotel (+ transfer if listed), one booking First-timers who want ATOL cover and no admin
DIY via Corfu About 1-1.5 h: 30-45 min fast ferry to Saranda, then 20-30 min by bus or taxi Flight to Corfu, ferry, hotel separately Anyone flying from an airport with Corfu routes, families who hate long transfers
DIY via Tirana About 4.5-5 h by bus with a change in Saranda, about 1,650-1,700 lek Flight, bus, hotel separately Budget trips, people adding Tirana or Berat on the way
Fly-drive About 4.5-5 h by car from Tirana Flight, hire car, hotel Couples planning day trips to Butrint, the Blue Eye and Gjirokastër

The Corfu route is the one most first-timers miss. The Saranda to Corfu ferry takes 30-45 minutes by fast boat, and the Saranda to Ksamil bus costs 150-200 lek and runs roughly hourly, or a taxi takes about 25 minutes. If the ferry times line up, a Corfu runway to a Ksamil sunbed can take under two hours, against half a day from Tirana.

Getting to Ksamil from Italy

Italy is one of Ksamil's biggest markets, and the same three routes apply with one difference: the ferry.

  • Fly to Tirana. Direct flights run from many Italian airports, including Rome, Milan, Bologna, Bari and Venice; from Tirana it is about 4-5 hours south by road.
  • Fly to Corfu, then the Saranda ferry. The quickest door-to-beach route in summer if your airport has a Corfu flight, with a 30-45 minute crossing and a short bus or taxi ride at the end.
  • Ferry with your car. From Bari or Brindisi, ferries sail to Durrës and Vlorë in Albania, or to Igoumenitsa in Greece; from Igoumenitsa to Saranda via the Qafë Botë border crossing is about an hour and a half by road.

From Naples there is no direct ferry to Saranda. Check the season's flights to Tirana or Corfu, which change from year to year.

Who sells Ksamil package holidays

When we checked in October 2026, Ksamil itself appears as a bookable destination on lastminute.com, Travel Republic, Expedia and Skyscanner's package search, and On the Beach sells it inside its Sarandë holidays. TUI UK sells Albania holidays and mentions Ksamil and Sarandë on its Albania page, but every flight it describes lands at Tirana, not Corfu.

What that means in practice:

  • Every package we found flies into Tirana. Check whether the transfer to Ksamil is included and how long it is. A 4-hour coach is normal; a package that leaves it out is cheaper for a reason.
  • "From" prices are winter prices. The cheapest advertised Ksamil deals we saw were short breaks in November. A July or August week costs far more, because peak room rates drive the price.
  • Hotel lists are short. Package sellers carry a handful of Ksamil hotels, usually the larger ones. If the hotel matters more than the convenience, compare it against our best hotels in Ksamil list first.
  • ATOL protection applies when the flight and hotel are sold together as a package by a UK seller. A DIY trip built from separate bookings does not have it.

What a Ksamil holiday costs

For a week in a central double, the room is most of the bill. These are the nightly bands this site tracks for July and August, not a quote:

Base Central double, peak (Jul-Aug) Late September
Ksamil ~€100-150 Well under peak
Saranda ~€90-130 Under €50

On top of the room, budget for sunbeds (the main hidden cost here, see our Ksamil sunbed prices), dinners, and the island boats. The better-value meals are a ten-minute walk inland from the beachfront, as our Ksamil restaurants guide explains.

Where to stay for a Ksamil holiday

Compare hotels, apartments and Vrbo rentals on the map. Powered by Stay22.

  • Hotel on or near the main bay if the holiday is about swimming twice a day. Expect noise until late in August.
  • Apartment or villa slightly inland for families and stays of a week or more, with a kitchen and parking. Our Ksamil apartments and villas guide covers the trade-offs.
  • All-inclusive: rare here. When we called properties marketed as all-inclusive, most turned out to be half-board, see Albania all-inclusive resorts.

A Saranda holiday instead

A Saranda holiday trades sand for a proper town: a long promenade, more restaurants open from six, and rooms that run €30-40 a night cheaper at peak. Ksamil's beaches are a 20-30 minute bus ride away. If your package lists "Sarandë" with a hotel on the front, that is a sound base for a Ksamil holiday, read Saranda vs Ksamil before choosing.

When to go

June and the first three weeks of September are the sweet spot: the sea is warm, the bay is not shoulder-to-shoulder, and room prices sit well below August. Month-by-month detail is in our guides to Ksamil in June and Ksamil in September. August is full, loud and the most expensive weeks of the year.

Day trips from a Ksamil base

Butrint is a ten-minute drive south of Ksamil, and the national park has its own car park at the entrance if you are driving; the Saranda to Butrint guide covers the bus. The Blue Eye and Gjirokastër are longer days inland, and the islands are a short boat ride from the main beach, see Ksamil islands.

A family holiday in Ksamil

The shallow, sandy water is the reason families pick Ksamil over the pebble beaches further north. Book an apartment with a kitchen and air conditioning confirmed in writing, and keep the transfer short: the Corfu ferry route is much kinder to small children than four hours on the road from Tirana. Ksamil with kids has the beach-by-beach detail.

FAQ

Can you get package holidays to Ksamil?

Yes. In October 2026 lastminute.com, Travel Republic, Expedia and Skyscanner listed Ksamil packages, and On the Beach and TUI sell nearby Sarandë and the wider Albanian Riviera. All the packages we found fly into Tirana, so check that the four-hour transfer is included.

What is the quickest way to get to Ksamil from the UK?

Fly to Corfu, take the 30-45 minute fast ferry to Saranda, then the bus or a taxi for the last 20-30 minutes. Flying to Tirana is often cheaper but adds roughly four hours by road. Ferries are more frequent in summer, so check the timetable against your landing time.

Is a Ksamil holiday cheap?

Cheaper than a Greek island, not cheap for Albania. A central double runs about €100-150 a night in July and August, and sunbeds add a real daily cost. Late September, or a Saranda base with day trips to Ksamil, cuts the bill noticeably.

Is Ksamil good for a beach holiday with children?

Yes. Its beaches shelve gently into sandy, shallow water, unlike the pebble beaches further north. Pick accommodation within an easy flat walk of the beach, confirm air conditioning, and avoid the Tirana transfer with small children if a Corfu route works for you.

The bottom line

A Ksamil holiday is worth it for the water, but plan it backwards from the transfer. If you can fly to Corfu, book DIY and be on the beach the same afternoon. If you want one booking and ATOL cover, take a package into Tirana and accept a long first day. Either way, compare the hotel on the map before you pay.
