Ksamil Restaurants: Where to Eat in Ksamil, by Reviews

Restaurants in Ksamil have the same problem as its beaches: a village built for a few hundred people now feeds several thousand a day in August, and a lot of what opened to meet that demand is competent rather than good. Eat on the beachfront every night and you will conclude Albanian food is fine and forgettable.

Walk ten minutes inland, or ten minutes north toward the lagoon, and it is a different country. Below are the places that actually hold up, with their Google ratings and review counts so you can see what the volume of opinion behind each one is, checked September 2026, and they drift.

The best restaurants in Ksamil, by weight of review

Sorted by how many people have rated them, because on a beach this busy a 4.9 from 80 reviews and a 4.9 from 2,600 are very different claims.

Restaurant Rating Reviews
Grill Zone 4.9 8,932
WG Restaurant Ksamil 4.9 2,670
Basilico Restaurant 4.8 2,664
Restaurant Grill & Pizza Palma 4.8 2,647
Yakuza Umi 4.8 2,324
Family Traditional Restaurant 4.8 2,256
Restorant Ujvara Ksamil 4.9 1,776
Eagle Nest Grill & Restaurant 4.9 1,645
Traditional House 4.7 1,791
The Smoke House 4.9 1,079
MËNDRA Restaurant (traditional lakror) 4.8 1,187

Grill Zone is the outlier by a distance, nearly nine thousand ratings at 4.9 is a level of consensus you rarely see anywhere, let alone in a village this size. If you want one safe booking, that is it.

Ratings are a starting point, not a verdict. Volume on a tourist beach rewards places that are easy to find and quick to serve; some of the best meals here are at places with a few hundred reviews and no sea view.

The mussel tavernas, which is the actual answer

The best food near Ksamil is not in Ksamil. Between the village and Butrint, the Butrint lagoon is lined with mussel farms and the tavernas that serve them, and this is where local families eat.

The Mussel House (4.4 from 3,830 reviews) is the best-known, sitting north of the village toward the lagoon. The pitch is simple: mussels pulled out of the water in front of you, grilled fish, and prices that bear no relation to the beachfront.

Two reasons to make the ten-minute taxi ride:

  • It fills the worst part of the day. Between 12:30 and 16:30 the sand is hot and crowded; a long shaded lunch on the lagoon is what locals have always done instead.
  • Mussels improve as the water cools. They are at their best from September onward, which is one more argument for Ksamil in September over August.

Beachfront versus inland

The pricing logic in Ksamil is entirely about the view, and it is steep.

On the sand you are paying for position. Food is generally decent, service is fast because it has to be, and the markup is real. Fine for lunch you do not want to walk for.

One street back the same dishes cost noticeably less and the cooking is often better, because those places survive on returning custom rather than passing trade.

Toward the lagoon is where the value and the quality both are.

A rough sense of what to budget, consistent with the rest of the coast: a seafood dinner with wine runs about €15-25 a head, less inland, more for a front-row table in August. Our Ksamil sunbed prices guide covers the other half of a beach day's spend.

What to actually order

  • Butrint mussels. Farmed in the lagoon a few kilometres away. Order them where they are farmed if you can.
  • Whatever came in that morning. Grilled whole, dressed with lemon and oil. Ask what is fresh rather than reading the menu.
  • Lakror. The traditional layered savoury pie. MËNDRA advertises itself on it specifically.
  • Byrek for breakfast, from a bakery rather than a restaurant.
  • Raki after dinner, which will be offered and is not optional in spirit.

Our Albanian food regional guide and fish vocabulary guide are worth a read before you order, knowing the Albanian for the fish in front of you changes the conversation.

Practical notes

  • Cash and card both. Larger restaurants take cards; smaller ones and the lagoon tavernas often do not. The nearest reliable ATMs are in Saranda.
  • Eat early or late in August. The central strip runs waitlists from about 20:30 in peak season. Albanian kitchens serve from 18:00, so an early dinner is entirely normal and gets you a table.
  • Book for the peak fortnight. Around 10-20 August, the better places want a reservation.
  • Fish is sold by weight. Confirm the price per kilo and the weight of the fish before it is cooked. This is standard practice, not suspicion, and it prevents the one bill dispute that regularly happens on this coast.
  • Out of season, check it's open. Ksamil is seasonal; in May and late October a lot of the strip is shut.

Eating on a day trip

If you are coming down from Saranda for the day, the sequence that works: beach before 09:00, lunch at the lagoon around 13:00, Butrint at 15:00, and dinner back in Saranda where there is more choice, see where to eat in Saranda. The Saranda to Ksamil bus runs roughly hourly and the last one back toward Saranda leaves Butrint around 19:30, so check it before you order another course.

FAQ

What are the best restaurants in Ksamil?

By weight of opinion, Grill Zone, 4.9 from nearly 9,000 Google reviews, far more than anywhere else in the village. Basilico, WG Restaurant, Palma and Yakuza Umi all sit at 4.8-4.9 with 2,000-plus reviews. For the best food overall, the mussel tavernas on the Butrint lagoon beat anything on the beachfront.

Is food expensive in Ksamil?

Beachfront tables carry a real markup for the view. A seafood dinner with wine runs roughly €15-25 a head, less one street back from the sand and less again at the lagoon tavernas. Ksamil is the priciest part of the Albanian coast for both food and sunbeds.

Where do locals eat near Ksamil?

At the mussel tavernas along the Butrint lagoon between the village and the ruins, about ten minutes by taxi. The mussels are farmed in the water in front of them, the fish is fresh, and prices are well below the beachfront.

Do Ksamil restaurants take cards?

Larger restaurants generally do; smaller places and the lagoon tavernas often do not. Carry cash in lek. The nearest dependable ATMs are in Saranda, 14 km north.

When should I eat dinner in Ksamil?

Early if you want a table without waiting. Albanian kitchens serve from around 18:00, and the central strip runs waitlists from about 20:30 in July and August. Book ahead during the Ferragosto fortnight around 15 August.

The bottom line

Eat one meal on the sand for the view, then stop. Ksamil's good food is one street inland and, above all, ten minutes north at the mussel tavernas on the lagoon, which double as the best way to spend the hours when the beach is unbearable. Confirm the price per kilo before the fish is cooked, carry cash, and eat at six rather than nine in August.
