Mirror Beach Albania (Pasqyra): Where It Is, From Saranda & Ksamil

"Mirror Beach" is a translation, not a signpost. The Albanian is Plazhi i Pasqyrave, the beach of mirrors, and Italians search for it as the spiaggia degli specchi. It describes what the sea does on a windless morning here, flat and reflective enough that the bottom reads through it like glass. It is also a beach whose location older guides get wrong, including an earlier version of our own Ksamil guide, which put it south of Ksamil. It isn't. Here is where it actually is, how to reach it from Saranda or Ksamil, and whether it is worth the stop.

Where Mirror Beach is

Mirror Beach (Plazhi i Pasqyrave)
Map pin 39.8041, 20.0058 on the SH81 coast road
From Saranda About 8 km south, ~15 min by car
From Ksamil About 4 km north of the village, ~10 min by car
Surface White pebble and sand, very clear water
Approach Down from the coast road; easy to overshoot
Parking Small roadside area, competitive by mid-morning
Service Now largely covered in sunbeds in summer, with free sections at the edges

Google Maps has a single Mirror Beach pin on this coast, just north of the Pigeon Cave cove (Shpella e Pëllumbave) and Pulëbardha. Descriptions of a "Mirror Beach" south of Ksamil towards Butrint don't match any pinned beach, and we have corrected our own guide that repeated it. What every source agrees on is the reason for the name and the reason people go: clarity, on calm mornings, over a pale bottom.

Getting there

Everything here runs off the SH81, the road south out of Saranda toward Ksamil and Butrint.

By car is the only approach that puts you at the water. The beach sits along the coast road and is easy to drive past at speed; the parking is a small roadside area rather than a lot, and it fills as the morning goes on.

By taxi from Saranda costs roughly 1,000–1,500 ALL (10–15€) each way, per the site's Saranda beaches survey. There is no reliable way to flag one down for the return, so agree a pickup before you get out.

By bus works if you ask. The Saranda–Ksamil municipal bus covers the 14 km in 20–30 minutes for 150–200 ALL and runs roughly hourly in summer from the port stop on Rruga Jonianet, and it passes the beach on the SH81. Ask the driver to let you off at the Mirror Beach turn-off and walk down; for the return, flag the bus on the road side.

Don't confuse the approach with Pulëbardha a little further south along the same coast, where the descent is a 1.5 km unpaved gravel track that punishes low cars.

Snorkelling is the strongest argument for going

This is where the sources stop disagreeing. The clarity is the draw, with the bottom visible at 3–4 metres on calm mornings, and the site's diving guide records something more specific offshore: the coastline near Mirror Beach carries small underwater cave formations and rock arches at 8–15 metres, swim-throughs and shallow grottos rather than true cave penetrations. That depth band is Open Water territory, and Saranda operators run trips to it alongside the Ksamil islands and the Butrint channel, more often on SSI certification than PADI.

For comparison, the beach database puts underwater visibility at neighbouring Pulëbardha, at 39.80013, 20.000691, at around 15–20 metres. That is the standard this stretch of coast sets, and it is why snorkelling gear is the one thing worth carrying here even if you skip everything else.

What it costs

Figure Source
Beach access Free; sections remain unorganised Saranda beaches survey
Sunbed set 500–800 ALL, some sections free Saranda–Ksamil bus guide
Taxi from Saranda 1,000–1,500 ALL (10–15€) each way Saranda beaches survey
Bus to Ksamil centre 150-200 ALL, 20–30 min, roughly hourly Saranda to Ksamil bus guide (2026)
Pulëbardha, for contrast €20–30 per set Beach database

Rates depend on which operator you happen to walk into, and prices along this coast rose in 2026; budget towards the top of the range.

So is it worth it?

Conditionally, and the condition is the morning. The entire case for Mirror Beach rests on the water being flat, and flat water on this coast is a dawn-to-mid-morning phenomenon. Arrive at midday in August into competitive roadside parking and a stiffened sea and you have driven out for a narrow beach with one or two bars on it. Arrive early with a mask, and you get the thing the name is actually about, plus a stretch of coast that never built the infrastructure Ksamil did.

Three reasons to skip it. If you need service on the sand, the Ksamil beaches deliver more of it. If you want a dramatic setting rather than clear water, Pulëbardha's cliff-backed cove is the better photograph. And if you have no car, the bus leaves you on the road with a walk down and a roadside wait for the return.

Frequently asked questions

Where exactly is Mirror Beach in Albania?

On the SH81 coast road between Saranda and Ksamil, about 8 km south of Saranda and 4 km north of Ksamil village, at 39.8041, 20.0058. Some older guides place it south of Ksamil towards Butrint; that is a mistake. It is the beach of mirrors, Plazhi i Pasqyrave, just north of the Pigeon Cave cove and Pulëbardha.

Why is it called Mirror Beach?

From the Albanian Plazhi i Pasqyrave, "beach of mirrors". On windless mornings the surface goes flat and reflective, and the pale bottom shows through it at 3–4 metres. The effect is a morning phenomenon; by afternoon in summer the sea has usually picked up enough to end it.

How much are sunbeds at Mirror Beach?

Around 500–800 ALL per set where there is a concession, with free sections at the edges; rates depend on the operator and rose along this coast in 2026, so budget towards the top. By comparison, nearby Pulëbardha charges €20–30 for a set.

Can you get to Mirror Beach without a car?

Yes, with a short walk. The Saranda–Ksamil bus passes the beach on the SH81 for around 150-200 ALL; ask the driver to stop at the Mirror Beach turn-off, and flag it on the road for the return. A taxi from Saranda costs 1,000–1,500 ALL each way and needs a return arranged in advance.

Is Mirror Beach good for snorkelling?

It is the best reason to go. The water is exceptionally clear, and the coastline nearby carries rock arches and small cave formations at 8–15 metres that Saranda dive operators visit. Bring your own mask; the beach is only lightly serviced and gear rental is not something to count on.
