Saranda weather gets judged by one screenshot: a forecast icon for the week you happen to be looking. That icon is the least useful number you can plan with. Sarandë sits on a bay facing Corfu across a narrow strait, and the town's year splits into two very different climates: a long dry summer where the forecast barely matters, and a wet winter where it is the only thing that does.
The averages below come from 30 years of data, not one season, and they disagree with a few of the numbers that circulate on booking sites. We put them next to the sea temperature, because in Saranda the sea is what decides whether a month works.
Saranda weather at a glance
Air figures are 1991–2020 averages from the ERA5-Land reanalysis (via Open-Meteo's historical archive) for the grid point over Sarandë, which we pulled and averaged ourselves in October 2026. Sea temperatures are the 10-year monthly averages published by seatemperature.info, which blends satellite and in-water readings.
| Month | High / low | Rain | Days with 1 mm+ rain | Sea | Our take |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 12°C / 4°C | 162 mm | 12 | 15.8°C | Wet, quiet, cafés open. No swimming |
| February | 13°C / 5°C | 158 mm | 12 | 15.0°C | Coldest sea of the year |
| March | 15°C / 7°C | 143 mm | 12 | 15.1°C | Spring light, still rainy |
| April | 19°C / 10°C | 103 mm | 11 | 16.4°C | Good for Butrint and walking, not for the beach |
| May | 23°C / 14°C | 68 mm | 9 | 19.2°C | First swims for the brave |
| June | 27°C / 18°C | 33 mm | 5 | 22.7°C | Our pick: warm sea, before the crowds |
| July | 30°C / 21°C | 18 mm | 3 | 24.4°C | Hot, busy, dry |
| August | 31°C / 22°C | 20 mm | 3 | 25.5°C | Warmest sea, peak prices |
| September | 26°C / 18°C | 119 mm | 8 | 24.6°C | July's sea, thinner crowds; first storms late in the month |
| October | 22°C / 14°C | 164 mm | 10 | 22.4°C | Still swimmable, rain returns |
| November | 17°C / 10°C | 250 mm | 13 | 20.3°C | Wettest month |
| December | 13°C / 6°C | 224 mm | 14 | 17.7°C | Off-season |
Two caveats on the table. Reanalysis smooths out the hottest afternoons, so treat the summer highs as typical rather than peak: across the strait, Corfu's airport station averages 31°C in July and August and has recorded 42.8°C. And reanalysis counts light drizzle as rain, so the rain-day column runs higher than what a station logs. The pattern is still right: a dry season from June to August and a wet one from October to March.
Which month to go to Saranda
The decision depends on what you came for.
Beach above everything. July and August, then September. The sea sits above 24°C from July to mid-September, and rain in July and August averages under 20 mm for the whole month. It is also the busiest and dearest stretch of the year.
Warm sea without the crowd. June, or September before the 20th. June gives you 22.7°C water and long dry days; September gives you a warmer sea (24.6°C) and the first autumn storm somewhere in the second half of the month. We would book June if we could only pick one.
Butrint, Gjirokastër and the Blue Eye rather than the beach. April, May and October. Highs in the low 20s are the right temperature for walking around Butrint's ruins, which have very little shade, and the day trips in our Saranda to Butrint guide are much more pleasant than in a 31°C August.
Cheapest without being miserable. Late May or the first half of October. October averages 22°C highs and a 22.4°C sea, which is warmer than the sea in late May, but it also brings rain back: about 164 mm across the month, usually in a few heavy days rather than a steady drizzle.
Months we would skip. November to February, unless you are visiting someone or passing through on the Corfu ferry. November is the wettest month, with about 250 mm, and the Corfu boats drop to a winter timetable.
Saranda sea temperature by month
The sea is the number that decides a Saranda trip, and it lags the air by about six weeks. That is why September water is warmer than June water even though September air is cooler.
| Month | Sea °C | Sea °F | Swimming |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 15.8 | 60 | Wetsuit only |
| February | 15.0 | 59 | Year low |
| March | 15.1 | 59 | Too cold for most |
| April | 16.4 | 62 | Short dips |
| May | 19.2 | 67 | Brave swimmers |
| June | 22.7 | 73 | Comfortable |
| July | 24.4 | 76 | Long swims |
| August | 25.5 | 78 | Year high |
| September | 24.6 | 76 | As warm as July |
| October | 22.4 | 72 | Still good, cooler air |
| November | 20.3 | 69 | Locals mostly stop |
| December | 17.7 | 64 | Off-season |
Ksamil's shallow bays run about half a degree warmer than this in high summer, which is one reason people take the bus down the coast to swim. Our Ksamil weather guide has its own month table, and the Himara sea temperature guide covers the coast further north.
Saranda weather in September, October and May
These are the three months people search most, because they are the gamble months.
September. Highs of 26°C, lows of 18°C and a 24.6°C sea. The first half of the month is summer with fewer people. The second half is when the first autumn system usually arrives: the 30-year average for the month is 119 mm of rain, but most of it falls in a handful of days, often late in the month. Book the first three weeks if the beach is the point.
October. Highs of 22°C and a sea that is still 22.4°C, the same as June. What changes is the air after a swim and the number of grey days: about 10 days with measurable rain on average. Beach bars close through the month, and the town itself stays open. The Saranda in October guide lists what still runs.
May. Highs of 23°C, but a sea of only 19.2°C. May feels like summer on the promenade and like April in the water. It is a good month for Butrint and a poor month for a pure beach holiday.
10-day and 14-day forecasts for Saranda
A climate table tells you what to expect. A forecast tells you what will happen, and for Saranda it is worth trusting about five days out and not much beyond that.
- BBC Weather has a Sarandë page and is what a lot of UK visitors check. Its 14-day view past day five is a trend, not a promise.
- AccuWeather and yr.no also publish Saranda forecasts; yr.no's long-range view comes from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute's models and is a good second opinion.
- Windy shows the ECMWF and other models side by side, plus wind and wave height, which matters if you have a boat tour or the fast ferry to Corfu booked.
- Summer forecasts barely change. From mid-June to the end of August a 10-day forecast for Saranda is almost always sun and highs around 30°C. Check it, but do not rebook around it.
- Autumn and winter forecasts matter. From late September a single southerly storm can cancel ferries and turn a beach day into a café day. That is when a 30-day or monthly outlook is worth looking at, and when you should keep a day flexible.
Saranda webcam
There is one public camera over the bay. WhatsUpCams lists a live stream of Saranda's port and bay from the Hotel Barracuda, and the same feed is mirrored on several webcam aggregators. Some of those mirrors mark it as offline at times, so if it does not load, Ksamil's camera at the Hotel Abalone (linked from our Ksamil weather guide) shows the same weather 20 minutes down the coast.
Weather at Butrint and the Blue Eye
Butrint is 18 km south of Saranda on a lagoon, close to sea level, so its weather is Saranda's weather. The walk round the site is long, and on a 31°C August afternoon it is hard going, so go before 10:00 in summer.
The Blue Eye spring is inland, in the valley on the road towards Gjirokastër. Its water is about 10°C all year, which is why the Blue Eye guide tells you not to plan a swim. Getting there is covered in the Saranda to Blue Eye transport guide.

Saranda and Ksamil share one climate. Corfu's figures come from a weather station, not reanalysis, and they line up closely, which is the best check we have that the Saranda numbers are sound. The rain gap is partly method: reanalysis grids around Saranda include the hills behind the town, which catch more rain than the seafront.

Saranda weather is simple in summer and unpredictable in winter. Book June or early September for warm water without August's crowds, check a forecast five days out rather than fourteen, and from October onwards keep one day free for the storm that cancels the ferry. If you are still choosing where to base yourself, the Saranda travel guide and our Saranda town page cover the rest.
