August is Ksamil at maximum: the warmest sea of the year, the longest evenings, every business open and running at full tilt, and more people per square metre of sand than anywhere else in Albania. There is a version of this article that tells you to come in September instead. That version is right for a lot of people, and you can read it. But plenty of us don't choose our holiday dates, and August in Ksamil is entirely survivable if you understand one thing: it is not one month, it is a ramp with a spike in the middle of it.
Getting the week right matters more here than in any other month on the Albanian coast.

August has the warmest water of the Albanian year at 26-27°C, and it holds that all month. This is the one thing August gives you that no other month does. Rainfall is effectively nil. The heat peaks at 32-34°C, and on white sand with no natural shade the felt temperature runs higher.
The Ferragosto spike, and why it dominates the month
The single most important fact about August in Ksamil is not the weather. It is that the two weeks around 15 August are the busiest of the entire year, driven by Ferragosto. The Italian national holiday that empties northern Italy onto the Adriatic and Ionian coasts, layered on top of the Albanian and Kosovar holiday peak.
In practical terms, roughly 10-20 August:
- Beaches fill before 09:00, and the front rows are often pre-claimed.
- Accommodation runs at or near capacity across the town, at the year's highest rates.
- Restaurants on the central strip want a booking, and walk-ins wait.
- The Saranda bus runs full from mid-morning and passes stops without stopping.
- Parking near the central beaches is genuinely difficult.
If you have any flexibility at all, take the last week of August over the middle one. The sea is identical, the heat has eased a degree or two, prices soften, and the density drops noticeably after roughly the 25th as Italian holidays end. It is the same holiday for less money and considerably less friction.
Making a mid-August day work
If the middle of the month is your only window, the day is winnable. It just runs on a schedule.
Before 09:00, On the sand. This is not advice you can bend in mid-August; it is the whole plan. The water is flat and clear, the light is good, and sunbeds exist.
09:00-12:30, Swim, and get to the islets early if you're going. The nearest islet sits about 100 metres offshore; the swim is short and the water is 26-27°C. Water taxis run from around 09:00 at roughly €5-7 return.
12:30-16:30, Leave the beach. This is the part most people get wrong. Mid-afternoon on unshaded white sand at 34°C is unpleasant and mildly hazardous, and it happens to coincide with when the nearby alternatives are best: Butrint ten minutes south is forest-shaded and empties once the cruise groups leave; the Blue Eye inland holds 10°C water year-round and costs 50 ALL to enter; the mussel tavernas toward Butrint do the long lunch that locals have always used to get through August afternoons.
16:30 onward, Back to the water. The afternoon exodus frees up space, the sea is at its warmest, and sunset over the islets is the reason people photograph this place.

Not all of Ksamil is equally full, and the gradient is steep.

August is the year's price peak, and mid-month is the peak of the peak.
- Sunbed set (two loungers + umbrella): 2,000-3,000 ALL, with front rows at the top of that range. Reports of 1,500-3,000 ALL across the coast are consistent with what Ksamil charges; there is no negotiating in August.
- Accommodation: the year's highest. Expect roughly €120-150/night for a decent central double, higher with a sea view and higher again in the Ferragosto fortnight.
- Pedalo / SUP: around 500-700 ALL per hour, with midday waits.
- Water taxi to the islets: roughly €5-7 return.

Ksamil's room stock is small against August demand, and most of the town is booked out for the peak weeks well in advance. This is the one month where "we'll find something when we arrive" fails outright rather than merely costing you more.
