Himara has roughly nine properties that call themselves hostels, and they are not variations on one theme. Two sit in the town centre within a minute of the pebbles, two cluster around Potam beach more than a kilometre south, one is a party house on the edge of town, one is a stone village house up the coast in Vuno, and one is a hillside family place above a beach most day-trippers never find. The dorm rate across all of them spans €11 to €40, a range wide enough that "hostel" stops being a useful budget category. What follows is the actual inventory, with what our records hold on each.

In the centre: the walk-to-everything options
Himara Downtown Hostel is the cheapest bed in town at €11–20 and sits a minute from the sand, with free breakfast, a shared kitchen and air conditioning. Our record puts it at 4.5 out of 5 across 143 reviews and calls it one of Himara's best-value budget beds. For a first trip where you want to walk to dinner, the beach and the bus stop without thinking about it, this is the default. We reviewed it in more detail here.
Himara Hostel is the town's original backpacker property, a garden compound 700 m from Spile with free breakfast, a shared kitchen, laundry and an open-air common area. Its €12–45 span is the widest in town because it sells both dorm beds and private rooms. The low end is a bunk, the high end is a room, and comparing the headline price against a dorm-only hostel is misleading.
Mateo Hostel sits a few steps from Spile Beach at around €29 a night and leans toward private rooms with sea-view balconies, plus a restaurant, bar, soundproofing and free private parking. Its 4.1/5 over 49 reviews is the lowest score in the central group, on the smallest sample.
Rooms by the Sea is filed as a hostel but is really air-conditioned sea-view guest rooms with private bathrooms, balconies, a garden and free private parking, at 4.5/5 from 67 reviews. If you want the hostel price point without a dorm, this and Mateo are the two to compare.
The Potam end: 1.4 km of separation
Potam Beach is south of the town centre and the two hostels there trade walkability for quiet water.
Natural Hostel is the highest-rated of the lot. It scores 4.7 out of 5 from 98 reviews, and our record notes a 9.8/10 on the booking platforms. It sits 300 m back from the Potam shore, and the thing everyone writes about is the communal dinner, which the owner Sergio cooks himself. Add a garden, shared kitchen, terrace and barbecue area, and a €22–40 band that is double the Downtown rate. What you are buying at that premium is a small property with a host, not a bed count. Oasis on the Beach is the literal beachfront option: roughly 10 m from the sea at Potam, 1.4 km from the centre, with dorms from €14, a shared kitchen, a bar, a pool table, table tennis and a tours desk. It carries 4.2/5 across only 39 reviews, the thinnest sample here, so treat the score as provisional. The pitch is unambiguous though. Nothing else in Himara puts a dorm bed that close to the water at that price.
Both mean a walk or a short ride into town for dinner. Getting around Himara covers the options; in practice most people walk it once and then stop bothering.
Out of town, and up the coast
Oasis Hostel is a separate property from Oasis on the Beach, 0.9 km from the centre, and it is the social one. Communal dinners, karaoke nights, a garden, and a reputation for people extending their stay. €12–25, 4.3/5 from 76 reviews. If you are travelling solo and the point of a hostel is meeting people, start here. If you want to sleep before midnight, do not.
Hostel on the Hill is family-run on the slope above Filikuri Beach, south of town, with private bathrooms, balconies, a shared kitchen, homemade breakfast and a panoramic Ionian terrace. At 4.3/5 from 52 reviews it is well liked, and it puts you at one of the quieter beaches on this stretch. But you are committing to being away from the centre, and Filikuri's access is not casual.
Shotgun Hostel & Guesthouse is not in Himara at all. It is a restored traditional stone house in the middle of Vuno village, on the SH8 between Himara and Dhermi, with dorms and private rooms, a sea-view terrace, a bar, a shared kitchen, home-cooked meals and organised tours. 4.2/5 over 170 reviews, the second-largest sample in this whole set. It suits people who want the village side of the Riviera rather than a beach town, and who don't mind that leaving means a bus.
The cheaper alternative nobody counts
Pine Side Camp is not a hostel, but it competes with every property above on price and beats all of them on volume of feedback: 4.6/5 across 953 reviews, which our record summarises as 9.2/10. It is a summer-only seaside camp of luxury tents pitched on the rocky shoreline under mature pines about 700 m south of the town centre, run by hosts Keldi and Belo, with shared bathrooms, a bar, a basic kitchen, breakfast, a pool table and darts.
Two things to know before booking: it is cash only, and it closes outside the summer season. Our review has the detail. For a warm-weather trip where you'd have taken a dorm anyway, a tent ten minutes' walk from town at camp prices is the best-value bed in Himara and it is not close.
What the bands actually buy
- €11–15 is a dorm bunk, shared bathroom, free breakfast, in or near the centre.
- €20–30 buys either a dorm at a small host-run place with dinner included, or a basic private room at the bigger properties.
- €30–45 is a private room with air conditioning and often a balcony. At that point you should be comparing against the €24–80 band at Alex Boutique Hotel and the €36–90 at Amphora Guesthouse in the old town, both of which carry higher review counts than any hostel here.

Book the July and August nights early. Himara's total hostel capacity is small. Nine properties, several with under fifty reviews, which tells you how few beds each holds. There is no overflow market when they fill.
