La cuisine de Himara s'appuie sur la mer Ionienne et l'héritage grec de la région : poissons et fruits de mer frais grillés ou frits, plats d'influence grecque comme le souvlaki, le gyros et les viandes grillées, ainsi que des incontournables albanais et méditerranéens. Le long de la côte, vous trouverez aussi d'excellentes pizzas au feu de bois et napolitaines et des pâtes italiennes. La plupart des cartes se construisent autour de la pêche du matin.
Prévoyez du liquide. L'Albanie fonctionne en grande partie avec le lek (environ 100 ALL pour 1 €), et de nombreuses petites tavernes, adresses de plage et cafés n'acceptent que les espèces ou les privilégient, même si les établissements plus grands et haut de gamme acceptent de plus en plus la carte. Il y a des distributeurs en ville à Himara, mais gardez assez de leks pour un repas — les terminaux de carte peuvent tomber en panne dès que le réseau lâche.
Le rapport qualité-prix reste bon selon les standards d'Europe de l'Ouest. Un repas dans une taverne décontractée ou une pizzeria revient à environ 8 à 15 € par personne, tandis qu'un dîner de poisson frais dans un restaurant en bord de mer coûte davantage — le poisson est généralement facturé au kilo, alors confirmez le poids et le prix avant de commander. Les voyageurs à petit budget s'en sortent avec environ 30 à 50 € par jour tout compris ; un café et une pâtisserie reviennent à quelques euros.
Pour la plupart des tavernes décontractées, vous pouvez vous présenter directement. En juillet et en août, les adresses populaires en bord de mer et les mieux notées se remplissent aux heures de pointe du dîner, alors mieux vaut réserver la veille ou arriver tôt, avant 20 h environ. Hors haute saison, la réservation est rarement nécessaire.
La plus forte concentration se trouve le long de la promenade de Himara et du front de mer de Spile, où tavernes de bord de mer, pizzerias et cafés se côtoient. Il y a aussi des adresses bien notées dans la vieille ville et réparties vers le sud en direction de Qeparo, le long de la route côtière SH8.
