The three-storey villa at Trip'n'Hostel Seaside, its top balcony painted with black stick figures, seen from the gravel garden

Potam, Himarë · Albanian Riviera

Trip'n'HostelSeaside

A three-storey villa in the olive terraces at Potam, on the hillside above the beach and a little over a kilometre south of Himarë town. Fifty-six beds, a bar built out of driftwood and reeds under a shade sail, and a stick-figure mural painted the length of the top balcony.

The house

A villa in the olives

Three floors of white plaster and cut stone standing in olive terraces at Potam, with the sea a walk downhill and Himarë town 1.3 kilometres north along the coast. Somebody painted a row of stick figures in sunglasses the whole length of the top balcony, and a prickly pear across the wall below it. That is the first thing you see coming up the track.

Fifty-six beds inside: mixed dorms of four, six, eight and twelve, each with its own bathroom and its own balcony, plus private twin rooms on the ground floor. Breakfast is free. Parking is free. The bar is out in the garden under a reed roof and a run of shade sails, looking straight out at the Ionian.

It is a young hostel and it says so — the house takes guests between 18 and 40, and it does not take children. If you want somewhere quiet, this is the wrong hill.

The garden bar

Drinks at the edge of the hill

A counter of weathered timber on a deck at the bottom of the garden, a roof of reeds, a run of shade sails over the top and the sea filling everything past the olive trees. It is where the hostel spends its evenings.

The same deck is where the boat trips, the castle hike and the day trips down the coast get arranged.

What happens

Not just a bed

The boat party

The hostel's own boat trip along the coast: cliff jumps, coves you cannot reach by road, and the sunset from the water. Ask at reception — it sells out in high season.

Sunset at Himarë Castle

A short hike up to the walled village behind the town, timed to arrive as the light goes. Organised from the hostel.

The hike to Filikuri

About twenty minutes on foot over the headland to Filikuri, a cove with a sea cave at one end and no road in.

Day trips down the coast

The Blue Eye spring, Butrint's Roman ruins and the fortress at Porto Palermo are all bookable at reception.

Questions

Asked often

The hostel sits on the hillside above the beach at Potam, in the olive terraces — it is a walk downhill from the garden, not a step off the sand.

Is breakfast included?

Yes. Breakfast is free and served every morning before the beach.

What can I book?

Beds in mixed 4-, 6-, 8- and 12-bed dorms, or a private twin room. Every dorm has its own balcony and its own bathroom; the private twin is on the ground floor and shares a bathroom.

Is there an age limit?

Yes — the hostel takes guests aged 18 to 40 only, and cannot accommodate children.

How do I pay?

In cash on arrival. Taxes are included in the rate.

Is there parking?

Yes, free private parking on site, on the gravel under the cypresses.

Can I bring a dog?

No. Pets are not allowed, and the whole property is non-smoking.

Is it open in winter?

It runs as a summer hostel on the Riviera. Message the hostel on WhatsApp for anything outside high summer.

How do I get here without a car?

The Vlorë–Sarandë coaches along the SH8 stop in Himarë town, 1.3 km north. From there it is a taxi or a walk south to Potam.
