Questions

Before you set off.

Can you drive to Gjipe Eco Campground?

No. There is no road to the tents. You leave the car at the car park above Gjipe, about 135 metres above the sea, and walk roughly 1.7 kilometres down a rock track to the camp at the mouth of the canyon. It takes about twenty-five minutes downhill, longer on the way back up.

How do you reserve a tent at Gjipe Eco Campground?

Reservations are taken directly by the campground. Call +355 69 930 5002, or email visitgjipe@gmail.com, with your dates and the number of people. Payment is made in cash when you arrive at the reception by the bar, so bring euros or lek with you down the track.

What comes with a tent at Gjipe Eco Campground?

The tents are pitched for you under the olive trees, each with a mattress, clean sheets and a pillow inside. Guests share flush toilets and cold-water showers, and the restaurant and bar on site serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, so you only need to carry down a bag.

Is there food and drink at the campground?

Yes. The campground runs its own restaurant and bar under the trees, serving lunch, dinner and drinks into the evening, and breakfast in the morning. Gjipe has no shop and no road, so whatever the bar does not sell has to be carried down the track from Vuno, Dhërmi or Himarë.

Is there Wi-Fi at Gjipe Eco Campground?

Yes. The campground has Wi-Fi over a Starlink connection, paid by the day at the reception. Ordinary mobile signal in the canyon mouth is weak, so the Wi-Fi is the reliable way to get online.

Where exactly is Gjipe Eco Campground?

It sits at the mouth of Gjipe canyon, directly behind Gjipe Beach, between Dhërmi and Vuno on the Albanian Riviera in Vlorë County. The pin is 40.12763 N, 19.67131 E. The nearest car park is above the beach off the road from the SH8, and the last stretch is on foot.
