Tents where the canyon meets the sea

No road comes down here. You leave the car about 135 metres up and walk the last 1.7 kilometres to the tents.

The way in

The last stretch is on foot, downhill, all the way to the sand.

The car park sits above Gjipe, off the road down from the SH8. From there a rock track drops about 1.7 kilometres to the mouth of the canyon, where the tents stand under olive trees with the beach about 65 metres beyond them. It takes roughly 25 minutes going down.

Everything you bring comes down that track with you, and goes back up it. Pack for carrying, wear shoes that grip rock, and read the walk down before you set off.

The tents are already up under the olives.

Each one is pitched for you and made up inside with a mattress, clean sheets and a pillow. You arrive with a bag, not a camp.

Lunch, dinner and the evening happen under the same trees as the tents, so nobody has to climb back up to eat.

The beach starts about 65 metres from the camp.

Gjipe Beach fills the mouth of the canyon between two walls of rock. More about the beach.
