Himaras Küche stützt sich auf das Ionische Meer und das griechische Erbe der Region: gegrillter und frittierter frischer Fisch und Meeresfrüchte, griechisch geprägte Gerichte wie Souvlaki, Gyros und gegrilltes Fleisch sowie albanische und mediterrane Klassiker. Entlang der Küste findest du auch sehr gute holzofengebackene und neapolitanische Pizza sowie italienische Pasta. Die meisten Speisekarten richten sich danach, was am Morgen angelandet wurde.
Bring Bargeld mit. Albanien funktioniert größtenteils mit dem Lek (etwa 100 ALL pro 1 €), und viele kleinere Tavernen, Strandlokale und Cafés akzeptieren nur Bargeld oder bevorzugen es, auch wenn größere und gehobenere Lokale zunehmend Karten nehmen. Im Ort Himara gibt es Geldautomaten, aber trag genug Lek für eine Mahlzeit bei dir – Kartengeräte fallen aus, wenn das Signal weg ist.
Nach westeuropäischen Maßstäben ist es immer noch günstig. Ein legeres Taverna- oder Pizza-Essen kostet etwa 8–15 € pro Person, während ein Frischfisch-Dinner in einem Restaurant am Meer mehr kostet – Fisch wird meist nach Kilo berechnet, also kläre Gewicht und Preis vor der Bestellung. Sparsame Reisende kommen mit etwa 30–50 € am Tag aus; Kaffee und ein Gebäck kosten ein paar Euro.
In den meisten legeren Tavernen kannst du einfach hereinspazieren. Im Juli und August füllen sich die beliebten Lokale am Meer und die höher bewerteten Spots zu den Stoßzeiten am Abend, also lohnt es sich, einen Tag im Voraus zu reservieren oder früh zu kommen, vor etwa 20 Uhr. Außerhalb der Hochsaison ist eine Reservierung selten nötig.
Die dichteste Ansammlung liegt entlang der Stadtpromenade von Himara und am Spile-Ufer, wo Tavernen am Meer, Pizzerien und Cafés Seite an Seite stehen. Es gibt auch gut bewertete Lokale oben in der Altstadt und verteilt nach Süden Richtung Qeparo entlang der Küstenstraße SH8.
