O lokalitetu Lëkurësi Castle

Lëkurësi Castle is Saranda's viewpoint rather than its monument, a modest 16th-century Ottoman hilltop fort whose draw is the panorama over the southern coast. From the ruined towers you look down over Saranda's bay and town, south to the Ksamil islands and the Butrint lagoon, and west across the strait to Corfu. A restaurant built into the walls makes it the town's go-to sunset stop.

Istorija

Built in the 16th century by the Ottomans to control the bay of Saranda and the channel to Corfu, one of the most contested stretches of the Ionian. Two towers and a length of wall survive today, enough to frame the view.

Šta ćete videti

The 360° panorama is the highlight: Saranda's bay and town below, the Ksamil islands and Butrint lagoon to the south, the mountains to the east, and Corfu across the strait to the west. The surviving towers and walls frame it, and part of the fort is now a restaurant.

Kako posetiti

About a 10-minute drive up the switchback road behind central Saranda, or a steep 30–40 minute walk. Parking near the top is limited, so arrive before the sunset rush. A taxi up and a walk down at dusk works well.

Najbolje vreme za posetu

Late afternoon into sunset, when the light over the bay and Corfu is best; June and September balance warm evenings with smaller crowds

Pitanja

Is Lëkurësi Castle worth visiting?

Yes, primarily for the view, the best in Saranda: a 360° panorama over the bay, the Ksamil islands, Butrint lagoon and Corfu. The castle ruin itself is modest, but as a free sunset viewpoint with a restaurant for dinner it's the standout stop above the town.

How do you get to Lëkurësi Castle from Saranda?

About a 10-minute drive up the switchback road behind the town, or a steep 30–40 minute walk. Most visitors take a car or taxi up, especially for sunset. Parking near the top is limited, so arrive before the evening rush.

Is there an entrance fee for Lëkurësi Castle?

No. Visiting the castle grounds and the viewpoint is free. The only cost is dining at the restaurant built into the castle, which is mid-to-upper range by Saranda standards and worth reserving ahead for a sunset table.

What's the best time to visit Lëkurësi Castle?

Late afternoon into sunset, when the light over the bay and Corfu is at its best and the air is clearest. Arrive 30–45 minutes early to park and claim a spot. June and September offer the best mix of warm evenings and smaller crowds.
