Spile

The town beach runs the length of Himarë’s front: shingle at the water, sand behind it, sunbeds and umbrellas through the season, and a jetty where the boats leave for Gjipe, Filikuri and the caves along the coast. The promenade behind is planted with plane trees, which is where the town walks in the evening.

Seventy-four metres of that is between the apartment and the sand in a straight line. The walk is a hundred and fifty metres and about two minutes, which is what it becomes once you have gone round the block rather than through it.
