Arxontiko · Spile, Himarë
Prawns, figs, green grapes.
A marble room with a folding glass front on the Spile seafront in Himarë — the ground floor of the ARXONTIKO hotel. Mediterranean and Greek, cash only.

Whose ground floor this is
One building, two businesses
ARXONTIKO is a family hotel on the Spile seafront. The restaurant takes its whole ground floor, opens onto the promenade, and serves anyone who walks in — you do not have to be staying upstairs. It answers its own phone, which is why it has its own pages here.
If it is a room you are after rather than a table, that is ARXONTIKO upstairs.
The meal, in order
Plates photographed at these tables
No menu is published anywhere, so there is not one here either. What follows is a record of what has come out of this kitchen, described from the photographs and nothing else.
- Yoghurt, fried cheese, courgette fritterswith toasted bread, at a table set with the house monogram
- Prawns with figs and green grapesin olive oil, on a white plate
- Prawns with pink peppercornsolive oil and a slice of lemon, on speckled glaze
- Fried calamari with rocketlemon on the side, in a dark bowl
A marble box
White marble lines the dining room wall, with bulbs hung on rope cords and the glasses racked above the black counter. It is a cold, bright room, and in Himarë in August that is the point.

The loud banquette
Along one wall the seating runs orange, burgundy, mustard and teal in a row, under a gold-framed painting of rocks and shallow water. It is the loudest thing in a room otherwise made of marble, timber and glass, and the whole site takes its colour from here.

A wall that leaves
The street elevation is black-framed folding glass. In summer it concertinas flat and the room opens straight onto the deck, the road and the bay behind it. There is no threshold to speak of once it is open.
