What you are looking at

One bay, three parts.

Porto Palermo is a double bay, almost closed. A neck of land runs out from the coast and widens into a headland, and the sea folds in behind it on both sides — so the water below the property is sheltered inlet on one hand and open Ionian on the other. It is the reason this hillside was built on.

The castle stands out on that headland, and the mixed sand and pebble below it is where people swim after they have walked it. Qeparo village and its beach are the next turn north-west along the coast; the shingle at Borsh runs away to the south-east. From up here you see the geometry of all of it at once, which you cannot do from any of the beaches themselves.
