Valta stands at the western end of the Qeparo bay, with the shingle beginning about thirty metres from its front wall. Every room type here has a balcony over the sea, and every rate carries dinner, a thatched parasol on the beach and the saltwater pool.

One front, six masses, a colonnade under all of it

The building is a single line along the shore, and it changes fabric as it goes: stone wings of round-headed arches, a glazed pavilion at the west end, a taller centre block of wide stone-framed openings. A timber colonnade runs beneath the length of it at beach level.

A saltwater pool between the building and the beach

The pool is filled with sea water rather than chlorinated fresh. It is seasonal, it is free to everyone staying, and the bay sits over its far edge.

Nine types, and every one of them looks out

They divide by the fabric they sit in rather than by grade: rough limestone in the old arcade, smooth plaster in the middle wing, wide stone-framed openings in the newer front. Beds, capacity and the beach allocation follow underneath each one.

The beach begins where the building stops

Round thatched parasols stand in rows on the shingle, one or two held for each room with loungers underneath. Curtained daybeds sit on the deck at the water's edge, and the colonnade shades the walk between them.

Dinner is not an extra here

Every room type is sold on half board, and both meals are eaten at Daphne by Valta on the Qeparo promenade — Mediterranean cooking with a bias towards wild fish, seafood, seasonal greens and herbs grown for the kitchen.

Two Qeparos, and this is the one on the water

The village comes in two halves: the old stone one high on the hillside, and the shore settlement below it. Valta is on the shore, at the western end, with the promenade running east to the village and the fortress at Porto Palermo on the next headland out.

A summer house on a shingle bay, run simply. These are the things worth knowing in advance.

01How far is Valta Hotel from the beach?

It stands on the beach. The shingle of Qeparo Beach begins about thirty metres from the front wall, and the hotel's own thatched parasols and loungers are set out on it. Guests walk from their room to the water without crossing a road.

02Is dinner included at Valta Hotel?

Yes. Every room type the hotel publishes is sold on half board, which is buffet breakfast between 08:00 and 10:00 and buffet dinner between 19:00 and 22:00, both served at Daphne by Valta. An à la carte lunch and an à la carte dinner are also available.

03Does Valta Hotel have a swimming pool?

There is a seasonal outdoor saltwater pool with loungers around it, open to all ages and included in the rate. It sits between the building and the beach, so you can see the bay from the water.

04Where exactly is Qeparo, and is it the same as Himarë?

Qeparo is its own village about eight kilometres south-east of Himarë, roughly ten by the coast road. It has two halves: the old stone village high on the hillside, and the shore settlement below it. Valta Hotel is on the shore, at the western end of the bay.

05Is there parking at Valta Hotel?

Yes. Parking is private, on site, free, and included in the room rate. No reservation is needed for a space.

06What is the view from the rooms?

Every room type here has a balcony and a sea view over the bay. The rooms sit on the sea side of the building, facing south across the water, and from the Grand Suite the view runs far enough to pick out Corfu.

07Can children stay at Valta Hotel?

Children of all ages are welcome and several room types are built for families, sleeping four or five. There are no cots and no extra beds, so a room sleeps the number of beds it holds.

08When is Valta Hotel open?

The season runs from the beginning of May to early October, so this is a summer house rather than a year-round hotel, and the pool is seasonal. Live rates and availability are held on Booking.com.
