Chimaera Hotel stands in the middle of Himarë, a couple of minutes’ walk from the promenade and the water. There is an outdoor pool with a timber deck and a bar, and inside a Mediterranean kitchen that runs from breakfast through to dinner. Parking is free and on the property.
The house
The white building on Rruga Jorgo Bollano
Fluted columns either side of an arched door, mouldings across the cornice, and scrolled iron rails across the balconies — the front of the hotel is the easiest thing to find on the street. Inside the floors are marble, the stair rail is brass, and the lounge off the lobby is where most people end up between the pool and dinner.
There is a lift, and a front desk that never closes. Rooms are soundproofed, and the whole building is non-smoking.

Timber underfoot, mosaic tiling down to the waterline, loungers and fringed parasols in a row along the wall. There is a pool bar, pool and beach towels, and a children’s pool beside the main one.
The pool is fenced and it opens seasonally. All ages are welcome in it.

The table
Mediterranean, breakfast through to dinner
The kitchen cooks Mediterranean and Albanian food from local, seasonal produce: an à la carte menu with daily specials, vegetarian dishes, and dietary requests taken as a matter of course.
Breakfast is continental and buffet — pastries, pancakes, cheese, fruit, juice — and it is included in the room. It can be brought up to the room, and so can everything else on the menu. The bar pours cocktails and wine indoors, and out by the water.

Himarë’s promenade, its cafés and its restaurants start at the door. Spile Beach is two hundred metres away, and four more beaches sit inside two kilometres. The hotel keeps a private beach area of its own, a few minutes away by car.
